Front Porch Peach Cobbler

There’s something about late summer that makes me want to slow down, pour a glass of sweet tea, and make something warm and nostalgic from scratch. This peach cobbler has become one of my go-to recipes when I want to feel close to home—even if I’m far from it.

I call this Front Porch Cobbler because it’s the kind of dessert that tastes like it was made by someone’s grandma in a sun-drenched kitchen, windows open, and a breeze blowing through. It’s simple, sweet, and best served with good conversation and maybe a little acoustic guitar in the background..

Ingredients You Need:

For the filling:

  • 6 peaches (peeled and sliced)

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, but helps thicken it up)

For the topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup white sugar

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

  • 6 tbsp cold butter

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Why I Love It

This cobbler tastes like barefoot summers, porch swings, and hand-written letters. It’s not overly fancy—but it doesn’t need to be. It’s warm and comforting and nostalgic in all the best ways.

You can swap the peaches for berries or apples in the fall, but there’s something so right about letting peaches shine in August.

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
This gives you just enough time to prepare everything with love (and maybe taste a peach slice or two).

2. Cook the peaches:
In a saucepan over medium heat, stir together the peaches, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla. Let it simmer for about 8–10 minutes until juicy and bubbly. Stir in cornstarch if you like it a bit thicker.

3. Butter the pan:
Butter a 9x13 baking dish or a large cast iron skillet. This is your flavor foundation!

4. Add the peaches:
Pour the warm peach mixture over the butter—but don’t stir it. Trust the process.

5. Make the topping:
In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk and vanilla until just combined—no over-mixing needed.

6. Pour the batter:
Carefully put the batter over the peach mixture. Again, don’t stir. It’s ok if some of the peaches our poking through!

7. Bake for 40–45 minutes until the top is golden brown and crisp at the edges.

8. Let it cool a bit, then serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream—or straight from the pan with a spoon. No judgment.
